Suppliers do not join or become members of SSIP. SSIP is not an assessment scheme. It is the assessment schemes who are registered members of SSIP.
SSIP actively promotes the reduction in health and safety assessment costs and bureaucracy in the supply chain, by making cross-recognition between member schemes as effective as possible and highlighting the savings to buyers and suppliers. All SSIP member schemes have fully committed to the vision of driving unnecessary cost and confusion out of supplier health and safety assessment, and SSIP’s core philosophy is to enable effective cross-recognition between existing schemes.

A health and safety assessment is an assessment of a company’s health and safety policies and processes carried out by an SSIP member scheme on behalf of a client. The client may be a ‘Buyer’ such as a local authority or large contractor, or a ‘supplier’ like you. Most contractors obtain SSIP certifications because they are asked to by buyers as a condition of working for them.
